Flat Island, known as Île Plate in French, is located near the Round Island, at the extreme north of Mauritius, about 11 kilometers north of Cap Malheureux, which is the Mauritius mainland's most northern point. Flat Island houses one of the only two working lighthouses in Mauritius.

Flat Island is the largest of the northern islets. As its name, the island is mostly flat, but has a single hill topped by a lighthouse. The vegetation on Flat Island is much denser than on Gabriel Island.

Flat Island is surrounded by a reef which makes it a very popular venue for snorkelers, and also offers great dive sites. As it is less visited by tourists Flat Island offers a more intimate atmosphere on its beautiful white beaches.
